The Value of Early Intervention and Regular Dental Care

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure—especially when it comes to your dental health. We’re committed to helping you maintain a bright, healthy smile through routine care and early intervention. By staying on top of the health of your teeth, gums, jaw, and tongue, and addressing issues as soon as they arise, you’ll experience less discomfort, avoid pain, and minimize unexpected expenses. That’s why our patients keep smiling.

Preserve Your Natural Teeth

Cavities are the leading cause of tooth loss in young adults, while gum disease is the main culprit for older adults. While good oral hygiene at home is crucial, regular dental exams allow us to catch early signs of tooth decay and gum disease before they become serious problems. Early intervention helps preserve your natural teeth and keeps your smile healthy for years to come.

Save on Healthcare Costs

Routine cleanings and checkups are affordable, predictable expenses that can easily be budgeted. Early treatments, like composite fillings for cavities, are cost-effective and help prevent more expensive procedures down the road. In contrast, advanced dental issues often require more extensive—and costly—treatments. Investing in preventive care now can save you significant expenses later.

Enjoy Hassle-Free Oral Health

When your oral health is in top shape, you don’t have to think twice about it. No pain, no discomfort, and no chronic toothaches. You can eat your favorite foods without worry and smile confidently without hesitation. Well-maintained teeth are not only beautiful but also reliable and comfortable. Prioritizing regular dental care and early intervention means fewer surprises, lower costs, and a lifetime of healthy, happy smiles.

to schedule an initial consultation & exam.

Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and, most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.

Frequently Asked Questions

General dentistry encompasses a broad range of services designed to maintain your oral health. This includes routine check-ups, dental cleanings, fillings, root canals, crowns, bridges, and preventive education. The main goal is to preserve dental hygiene and tooth health by addressing issues early before they worsen.

It’s recommended to visit your dentist at least twice a year for a check-up. These regular visits help catch oral health issues early and keep your teeth and gums in top shape. Depending on your specific needs—such as having braces, dental implants, or gum disease—your dentist might recommend more frequent visits.

A regular dental cleaning, or prophylaxis, removes plaque and tartar from above the gum line and is recommended every six months for most patients. A deep cleaning, known as scaling and root planing, goes below the gum line to remove tartar and bacteria. It’s typically prescribed for patients showing signs of gum disease or those with significant plaque buildup.

General dentists can address minor orthodontic issues using solutions like Invisalign or veneers, which improve the appearance of slightly crooked teeth. However, more complex alignment issues usually require an orthodontist. If needed, your general dentist will refer you to a specialist for braces or other advanced orthodontic treatments.

If you experience a dental emergency, such as severe pain, a broken tooth, or a lost filling, contact your dentist immediately. Many dental offices provide emergency contact numbers for after-hours assistance. If you can’t reach your dentist and are in severe pain or experiencing bleeding, visit an emergency room or urgent care clinic. It’s important to address dental emergencies promptly to prevent further complications.

My old dentist office went out of network so I tried Upton and Baker. I have some friends and family who referred me. I met with Dr. Baker and had a great experience. It was easy and they did a great job!

This office is truly amazing, especially if you're looking for a place that feels more like family. The front desk and clinical staff are incredibly warm and welcoming. Dr. Baker was fantastic! I hadn’t been to the dentist in quite some time (which is unfortunate to admit), but they never made me feel bad about it. Instead, they were very welcoming and made me feel comfortable during my visit.

As a new patient I found the staff to knowledgeable and the office impeccably clean. Dr. Baker and I had a thorough conversation over my medical history and a just as thorough exam, prior to my cleaning. If you’re interested in finding a practice that doesn’t rush you through a process but truly listens to your concerns, this is it.

Fantastic dentist. If you’re looking for a dentist that takes time to listen to your concerns, doesn’t try to upsell unnecessary items, and is great with kids - this is a great spot for you. We had trouble finding a dentist in the Wake Forest area that didn’t have a chain like corporate feel so we were so glad to find Upton and Baker. Staff are friendly and approachable and care is thorough and gentle.

I recently moved to Wake Forest and needed to find a dentist. I visited Upton & Baker DDS today for my routine dental cleaning and to address a concern I had with my teeth. They were very professional from the moment they called me to schedule an appointment till the moment I left their office this afternoon. Victoria did an amazing and thorough cleaning. She worked very gently and made me feel at ease. Dr. Baker was also very pleasant. He took his time with speaking to me and explained everything very clearly. All and all, I felt really comfortable and I am happy that I have found my new dentist.
