Dr. Upton has many years of experience in private dental practice and in particular this practice where he has been since 1984. He continues to pursue treatment options that put an emphasis on aesthetics and longevity. Dr. Upton’s philosophy is that individualized planning of treatment gives consideration to what is best, most needed and promotes long-term oral health. His treatment recommendations are conservative mainly to promote good maintenance of his patients’ natural dentition.

Dr. Upton graduated from the School of Dentistry at UNC Chapel Hill after completing his bachelor’s degree at UNC. Following dental school, he has continued to seek education opportunities in dental aesthetics and periodontal disease-related treatments. Conservative management of dental problems resulting in improved overall dental health for his patients keeps motivating him in a profession he has been passionate about since high school. Dr. Upton feels fortunate to be able to help patients move from compromised dental conditions to stable, healthy, beautiful smiles.   A life-long North Carolinian, Dr. Upton grew up in Randolph County but has called Wake County and Wake Forest home since 1977. He and his wife Mitzi have two children, Sam and Martha. His interests outside of dentistry include golf, classic cars, and being outdoors. When possible, he and his family like to travel, his favorite destination being the Caribbean Islands.
