Is A Tooth Extraction Necessary?

There are various reasons why you might require a tooth extraction, including but not limited to:

  • The removal of baby teeth that are having difficulty naturally falling out.
  • Extracting teeth as part of orthodontic treatment.
  • Addressing tooth extraction due to pain or infection.
  • Extracting a fractured tooth.

Nonetheless, keep in mind that tooth extraction may not be the only solution. If you’re experiencing toothache, we may have options to swiftly alleviate your discomfort while preserving your tooth. Timely identification of the issue is crucial.

Please inform us if you’re encountering any of the subsequent symptoms:

  • Intense toothache.
  • Pain that intensifies with pressure or when chewing.
  • Jaw discomfort or stiffness.
  • Swelling in the gums surrounding the affected tooth or teeth.
  • Indications of gum disease, such as discoloration, bleeding, or foul odor.

What Your Treatment Plan Will Look Like

A tooth extraction procedure is typically carried out by a dentist or an oral surgeon and typically necessitates just a single office appointment. The following outlines the steps involved in the process, starting from assessing whether tooth removal is the appropriate course of action for you, through the actual extraction, and concluding with post-extraction care:

Finding Best Solutions

Prior to any tooth extraction, our dentists conduct a thorough assessment of your symptoms and engage in a discussion regarding available options. This process is crucial in identifying the most suitable course of action for your dental health.

The Removal Process

Depending on the dentist’s and patient’s preferences, a local anesthetic will be administered to numb the extraction site. Additionally, sedation can be provided if deemed necessary. Our oral surgeons employ a minimally invasive approach to ensure the gentlest possible tooth extraction. Prioritizing your comfort and speedy recovery is our primary concern.

Healing and Feeling Better

After the procedure, you will receive detailed aftercare guidance, which encompasses:

  1. Instructions on proper mouth care during the healing process.
  2. What to anticipate during the recovery period.
  3. Guidelines for handling any potential complications.

Should you have any further concerns or questions, we are more than willing to arrange a follow-up appointment to address them.

The Cost Of An Extraction In Wake Forest

The cost of tooth extraction can vary based on several factors. Under a typical insurance plan, a tooth removal generally ranges from $100 to $200+ out of pocket. We are more than happy to offer you an estimate in advance that you can submit to your insurance provider to determine your expected out-of-pocket expenses. If you do not have insurance, you can anticipate paying approximately $200 to $600+ per tooth.

It’s important to note that no dental practice can provide a precise quote over the phone, as your treatment plan must be customized to your specific needs, which can only be determined following an oral examination. There are two broad categories that dental extractions fall into, which can offer a better understanding of potential costs and reasons:

  1. Simple Tooth Extraction: A simple extraction is conducted on teeth that are visible in the mouth and can typically be performed by a general dentist using local anesthesia. The cost estimate for a simple extraction of an accessible tooth without complications would generally be lower.
  2. Surgical Tooth Extraction: A surgical extraction is a form of dental surgery, often performed by an oral surgeon in a dental surgery center. This is a more complex procedure than simple tooth extraction and involves removing a tooth that is not easily visible or reachable, either because it has not fully erupted or has broken off at the gum line. Surgical tooth extractions require careful consideration, delicate care, and expertise, and thus come at a higher cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Many people believe wisdom teeth removal is a rite of passage. The reality is that wisdom teeth only need to be removed if they become impacted or otherwise interfere with your jaw and teeth.

Thanks to contemporary dental methods and advanced equipment, tooth extractions are virtually painless. Patients often find the procedure to be surprisingly fast and straightforward. While some discomfort may be anticipated, we will furnish you with aftercare guidelines to ensure your comfort throughout the speedy healing process.

1 hour is the recommended time.

During your appointment, we will furnish you with aftercare instructions tailored to your individual requirements. Nonetheless, here are some general post-tooth extraction or dental surgery guidelines that can help minimize the risk of complications and promote a swift recovery:

In the first 24 hours following a tooth extraction, refrain from spitting, mouth rinsing, blowing your nose, using a straw, or smoking. Avoid touching the extraction site with your finger or tongue. Steer clear of hot foods and beverages. Do not take aspirin, as it can impede blood clotting. Limit physical activities and exercise during the initial recovery period.

In the case of a simple tooth removal, the typical recovery period spans approximately 7 to 10 days. Conversely, for more intricate procedures like surgical tooth extraction or wisdom tooth removal, anticipate a recovery period of about 2 weeks. Regardless of the procedure’s complexity, you should experience minimal discomfort during the recovery process.

Barring any unforeseen complications, expect a typical tooth extraction to take around 45 minutes or less.

Best Dentist in the area. Great hygienists and the dentists always take the time to discuss any areas of improvement or concern. Other places I feel like they are rushing you in and out as quickly as possible. I have recommended at least 4 people to go there and they all love it. If Baker or Upton are unsure of the best course of treatment, they will call other specialists to get their opinion. My wife went to 3 other dentists before Baker, and he was able to figure out the issue after a week. I can not recommend them enough.

Highly recommend. As someone who finds dental work very aversive, Dr. Baker and Kelly were awesome. The whole team was so welcoming and the work itself was a breeze compared to previous experiences elsewhere.

Just had my second visit to Dr. Upton. On my first visit, Dr. and his assistant, Jessica, did a thorough evaluation of my situation. He asked me questions about my dental history and actually listened carefully to my concerns. Then he left to review my x-rays and options for treatment. When he returned, he gave me some options, which I REALLY appreciated. He even took into consideration my dietary habits and the fact I don't like prescription medications. Not even my physicians gave me that kind of concern!! Today I had my tooth pulled out and he took into consideration my financial situation and did it under local anesthesia, where my previous experience was done under general anesthesia. It was less expensive and totally tolerable. I'm glad that he considers the whole patient, the tolerance to pain, the budget and the treatment preferences. I also appreciate that he sat on a stool and spoke to me face to face. His office staff, Jessica, Megan and Priscilla are all equally attentive and considerate. Thank you everyone 💓! Yes, I would recommend their services to anyone in need of dental care.
